The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Devraj Ghimire, has informed that Ravi Lamichhane’s position as MP has been revoked. In the meeting of the House of Representatives held on Wednesday, the Speaker Ghimire informed the House according to the letter received from the Supreme Court.
Speaker Ghimire said – ‘According to Supreme Court’s letter challan number 27406, case number 079 WC 0035 dated March 15, 2079, the process to obtain Nepali citizenship after Ravi Lamichhane, a member of the House of Representatives, duly renounced his American citizenship from the writ petition filed by Yuvraj Paudel as the petitioner. Since it is not completed, he is not considered fit to be a member of the House of Representatives, as he is not fit to be a candidate from Chitwan Region No. 2, as he is considered a candidate and has been elected, the work of declaring elected and giving certificates is invalidated by the order of expulsion according to Article 33, Clause 2, 3 and Article 137 of the Constitution of Nepal. I hereby inform the honorable members according to sub-rule 1 of the Rules of the House of Representatives 2075 Rule 212 that the position of the member of the House of Representatives is vacant according to Section B of Article 89 of the Constitution of Nepal.
The meeting of the House of Representatives has been adjourned to be held on Sunday, January 21 at 1 PM.
